Hodgepodge #1

  • Operation Cherry Pie is underway! Yesterday we went over to the local kitchen gadget shop and I got a cherry pitter. What a beautiful invention. I don't care that I'll only use it a couple times a year. It was worth every penny of the $5 I spent on it. I pitted 2 lbs of cherries for the pie that should be getting made tonight.
  • Finished my apron for Lucy's Apron Angel project. It's from Amy Butler's "In Stitches" book. I love this apron pattern and have made tons for family and friends. This time I swapped the pocket fabrics... I like the yellow better as the full pocket, not just the trim. My machine crapped out on me near the end so the short little edges of the bottom trim aren't closed. I tried at least 10 times but something is snagging thread near the bobbin and the result was not pretty. I've got to get it figured out before starting something new, and I've got swaps to finish!
  • Husband and I spent 5 hours last night helping our family friends clean out their elderly parents' house. I went through every greeting card, thank you card, and invitation that they received for at least the past 10 years. It was a time to both reminisce and mourn. Definitely made me rethink holding on to stuff that we don't need/use/ever look at. Get rid of it! (Uhh... do I reconsider my cherry pitter?!?!)
  • I'm hoping to get my swap fabrics together by Friday, get my machine figured out and working again, and get started on my swap projects started this weekend. Perhaps I'll have some photos to show you next week.
  • The weather around here has been BEAUTIFUL and HOT. Just the way I like it. I'm hoping we'll do a big bike ride this weekend... although the first of the season is always a bit choppy. Plus, we're headed to a Father's Day pool party on Sunday, and nothing would be better after a big ride than a dip in the pool.
  • A great big birthday shout out to Evangeline! Happy 26!
  • (Who am I kidding, every post is a hodgepodge!)

I love that apron! I just found your blog through your Flickr photos. I love your shoe card and the Pimp Stitch ones are so cute. How do you embroider on paper to make the cards? I tried cross stitching on paper once and I didn't like how it looked. Do you poke holes first or just use a really sharp needle?

Thanks for the comment about the cards, Patty! I do poke the holes first, and then embroider. Not that different from cloth, although you do need to make sure the holes aren't too close together or it'll rip through. There will be more designs soon!
