Operation Hallmark

Does anyone else find it ridiculous to spend $4 on a special occasion card? I do. Especially when I never quite like the card and/or the recipient will receive 3 of the same. Have you ever tried buying confirmation cards? The selection is terrible. So, partially out of boredom and partially out of necessity, I've taken it upon myself to stockpile homemade cards. Last night while husband, sister, and I watched 'You, Me, & Dupree' (I'm throwing seven different kinds of smoke!), I worked on a few of these gems. You only get to see one, as there are birthdays approaching and we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise, would we? I'm hoping to get 30 done this month and have them ready to go for the next year.

50 cards/envelopes $8 +
30 skeins of embroidery floss $9
=33 cards $17

That's $0.52 a card (if I use all that floss). And these are made with thought and care. Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I'd much rather receive something created than something bought.

I would like to have a card like that much more than a bought one! I think it's an awesome idea to make some cards in advance. I always leave card-making until too late.

That's a really great idea. I'll definitely be trying that for the next set of birthday cards I send out. Thanks for the inspiration.
