Fabulous Finds

So, in the past weeks I've made two new handbags (of which I'm only using one) and I already am lusting after another new one. Feast your eyes on this. (Find #1)
It's the free "To-Market Purse" pattern by Betsy Ross Designs. I love this design and I even admired a skirt at Anthropologie a few weeks ago with the same pin-tucks near the top. I was a bit upset that I don't have enough fancy schmancy Amy Butler fabric to make one, though. Pictured above is Amy's Cherry Wallflower from the Lotus line. Knew it from the moment I saw it. Sick. I know. So, instead of buying expnsive ($9 per yard) fabric, I decided to use something from the stash. Enter Find #2.
Perhaps you recognize (I didn't) Marimekko's Kukkula fabric. Mine has an aquamarine field with white branches. I bought this fabric from Crate and Barrel outlet at least 2 years ago (copyright on the selvage is 2003) and paid probably $5 for it. They charge by the pound. Like, by the lb. I've never ever seen fabric weighed before, but I guess it works for them! Anyway, to those of you like me who have no clue what this fabric is... it normally retails for about $50 a yard! And a Marimekko purse will set you back about $100!

I will have the handbag portion done tonight or tomorrow evening. I've ordered leather handles from Homestead Heirlooms. They have GORGEOUS leather handles. I should have those by the weekend and have a Marimekko bag all ready to go by next week.

Is it understandable that I now fear messing up this project? What did you do to the Marimekko!?!

Oh! I love that AB fabric too ... I've made a few things out of it. Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I'm adding that to the growing list of purses I MUST have ;-)
