Congrats, Grad

Husband and I are off to a high school graduation party this afternoon. Instead of paying $3 for the same card that everyone else is getting the grad, I decided to 'make' one myself. Obviously I'm not making the paper (yet). I did, however, find a great tutorial about sewing on papercrafts. The easy peasy steps are as follows...

Draw your design. Husband did this, as I am not artistic at all. I am a great tracer, and I can break sewing projects down into mathematical thoughts, but I am NOT artistic. Husband choose a simple '2008'. Then I held the card over the original drawing up to a sunny window and traced it using my quilters chalk.

Next, I used a straight pin to prick holes along the lines. Thank God for all those years doing pinprick art at Montessori! Can you see the holes in the photo? That's a view of the inside of the card. The final step was to embroider using the holes. Simple backstitch worked well, and I think it looks great for a first project.

Thank you for the link to the tutorial! I was going to suggest you write one. :)
